Lacquer just started peeling off my car. Can I stop it or repair it?

If it is located on one panel then you could have a bodyshop flat is back and put a new coat of laquer on it.

Depends how much the car is worth, as Strider says to give decent advice the make and year of the car would be handy.

For example, 5 yr old car worth £4500, then repair.

12 yr old car worth £500, then live with it.

It's about 15 years old and only worth about £1000, but I like it. That's why I wondered if I could just stop it getting worse. It's on the bonnet. I suppose I might be able to pick up a new bonnot from the breakers.

lquer peel is part of age of the vehicle.

a body shop shouldnt charge much to re laquer it. you can stop it peeling further by simply buying some clear nail hardner (the type for womens nails) using a fine soft artists brush (not the brush from the bottle) coat the edge of the peeling laquer allow to dry and this should stop it gowing any further and is complete safe to wash the bonnet of the car as it wont wash away.

i have done this on many cars even my own in the past when i notice a small areal of bubbling laquer (usually on the roof next to roof trims etc) i lift off the small bubble with my finger nail and apply that as a laquer to cover it and prevent it growing, on some cars ive applied it so it doesnt peel off any further when i wash the car but the whole panel should be re-laquerd wich i do myself in the summer when its warm and sunny buying at spray can and applying the two coats it used to have and the flaten back with a 2000 grit wet and dry and buff polish with a t cut.
