Can turtles eat guppies? ›

Aquatic turtles in the wild eat fish, and "feeder fish" may be purchased from pet stores or bait stores to feed pet turtles. Depending on the size of the turtle, fish such as goldfish, guppies, or minnows may be offered.

After fewer than 15 generations of selection, the markings of guppies in different ponds had substantially diverged as a result of artificial selection. In the presence of predators, guppies evolved to blend in with their background.

When male guppies are in an area without predators, they tend to be more colorful, and this is because they need to attract females to mate. This preference for bright colors in mates has led to the evolution of more colorful male guppies.

Guppy feeders are small and inexpensive fish to feed smaller predator fish or to grow out to become colorful little aquarium live bearers. Each pack comes with about 50 fish, give or take 5%. These feeder guppies are hardy but do require an airstone and clean water.

What type of fish can live with turtles? ›

There are three kinds of fish that will fit in the fish tank together with the most common pet turtle. They are tetra fish, zebrafish, yellow cichlids. For those who have never put a fish in a turtle tank, it's recommended that you start with a small amount of tetra or zebrafish. Both species are cheap.

On the other hand, snapping turtles and softshell turtles are piscivorous (fish eating) and can potentially impact gamefish populations. They grow to large sizes and should be removed if quality fishing is top priority. Snapping turtles are notorious for snagging young ducklings from the water surface.

Generally, pet turtles are omnivores, meaning that they eat both meat and plants. A typical adult pet turtle diet should include animal products, vegetables, and fruits. Younger turtles between about 7 to 10 years old usually need a larger share of animal-sourced foods.

Red ear sliders will try to eat most fish kept with them. In a large habitat, fish like koi may survive with red ear sliders, though the turtles may nip their fins. Very small, agile fish like guppies may be able to survive with turtles, though they may overpopulate the tank.
