Arne Slot must block Liverpool transfer after 'monster contract' offer emerges (2024)

It wouldn't be a summer transfer window at Liverpool if at least one of their star players wasn't linked with a summer exit.

Mohamed Salah has often been the player whose future has been the subject of speculation in recent years. That remains the case this year, but it seems another member of the Reds squad is being tipped to leave Anfield this summer.

Reports in recent weeks have claimed the clubs from the Saudi Pro League are interested in signing Alisson Becker. The Brazilian signed for the Reds from Roma in 2018 and has just completed his sixth season on Merseyside.

Alisson has been the established number one at Liverpool and has been ever since he first arrived at Melwood six years ago. Now there are reports that his time with the Reds could come to an end.

A fresh report in TEAMtalk has claimed that Alisson has been identified as a priority target for chiefs in the Saudi Pro League this summer. As a result, it has been stated that a "monster contract" offer is being prepared for the Liverpool goalkeeper in an attempt to convince the stopper to leave Anfield and move to Saudi Arabia.

This is not the first time that Liverpool have been forced to deal with interest from Saudi Arabia for their players. It was only 12 months ago that Jordan Henderson and Fabinho left the Reds to move to the Saudi Pro League, forcing the Reds to change their plans for the season and add further reinforcements to their squad with Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.

Arne Slot has only just started his role as Liverpool's new head coach. Part of that responsibility will be assessing the squad and seeing where he may need further reinforcements via the transfer market, as well as making decisions on the futures of existing members of the team.

Liverpool will not want to let Alisson leave the club this summer, even if a substantial offer gets made by a team from the Saudi Pro League. The situation may also be complicated by the fact that Caoimhin Kelleher may seek a move away from Anfield in an effort to become a regular starter elsewhere.

If Liverpool were to let Kelleher leave, then the chances of Alisson also being allowed to depart would decrease even further. The Reds know they have one of the world's best goalkeepers in their ranks, and Slot will be fully aware that for him to have the best chance of succeeding in his first season at Anfield he would need to have Alisson at his disposal.

The transfer window has not even opened and yet there has already been a great deal of speculation about what may or may not happen at Liverpool this summer. Slot will already have the difficulty of following in Jurgen Klopp's footsteps, but if he were to see one of the world's best goalkeepers leave before his first season that would make his job all the more challenging.
