ESPNput together its ranking of all 32 cornerback units ahead of the 2024 NFL season. Where did the Colts end up on this list?

The cornerback position is one of the biggest unknowns on the Colts roster heading into training camp. The Colts relied heavily on inexperienced players last season, which led to up and down play, including too many big plays surrendered and not enough plays on the football being made.

However, despite the uncertainties coming into the offseason, the only outside additions made to cornerback came on Day 3 of the NFL Draft. This tells us that internally, the Colts are more bullish on their cornerback group. GM Chris Ballard mentioned earlier this offseason that the experience gained last season, along with the return of Dallis Flowers from injury, should be catalysts for improved play.

Following the draft, defensive coordinator Gus Bradley said that outside of Kenny More as the nickel, the battle for playing time at cornerback is ‘wide open.’ Although it is still early, throughout OTAs and minicamp, the positional battle began to take shape with JuJu Brents and Jaylon Jones as the consistent boundary starters.

“I think all those guys, obviously, we drafted two young guys, but I think with Jaylon Jones, Dallis, and JuJu, they’re long, rangy guys that are physical when they get up and press,” said Shane Steichen of the cornerback room. “They got good vision. I love those guys. It’s a good room. A good competition there. It’s going to be a good competition, obviously, in minicamp and OTAs, but going into training camp is going to be big for all those guys.”
